Hardwood decking is a great choice for your garden in terms of beauty and durability.
Hardwoods are strong and durable and less likely to mark or scratch than softer woods. Hardwoods contain natural oils that can help with the variety of weather that we experience as a country. We recommend using a clear decking oil on the deck each year.
With hardwood decking you pay for what you get.
Two types that we would like to focus on are IPE(pronounced "eepay") and Yellow Balau. Ipe is simply stunning with it's rich brown colour and beautiful grain. It is one of the strongest and most resilient. It will weather to a silver-grey tone if left untreated.
Yellow Balau is again a durable tropical hardwood with lovely yellow and orangey-brown tones. It has an interlocking grain and a fine even texture.
A popular choice for cost and versatility. Softwood decking is a great value board and can be used to create a variety of deck patterns. Grooved or smooth softwood decking can also be used to create benches, fascia for side of the deck and raised planters.
The wood is kiln dried to prevent twists and splits. The wood goes through a pressure preservative treatment that will protect is against rot, decay and insect attack and we can give aftercare information on how to keep it looking it's best.
Perfect for sunny areas, terracing or raised to match levels of entrances.
Trex, a composite deck board, is still going to look good in 25 years- not something you can say of softwood. A low maintenance deck that never requires painting or staining. A perfect choice also if you are conscious of recycling as Trex recycle billions of shopping bags a year to produce this decking!
They are guaranteed for 25 years domestically and would be perfect for a child's play area or family garden as they are scratch resistant and the screw are hidden.
No rotting or splitting and have a lovely feel to them.
